PROJECT PROPOSAL
Mental Health Gallery Exhibition

Summary
I want to set up an exhibition of images based around mental health, this will be to help to give information on how it feels to have a specific mental illness effects to lessen the stigma around it. I hope to incorporate local mental health charities in which I hope to get some funding to help with finances.  I will be collaborating with a class mate. The total budget will be approximately £600.

Introduction
My class mate and I are degree level students studying digital media design with the hope to become freelance photographers. We both want to work in the creative sector so we know of the challenges this entails. We have decided to collaborate for our courses final show. This show will be an exhibit of our images, over the course of a week, in a local gallery of our choice. Our chosen subject for our images is mental health and we shall both create separate images to show the hidden feelings behind different mental illnesses. Our target audience is the general public, all ages, but mainly the younger generation as we feel that these are the ones who need educating about mental illness the most as they will be the ones to support future generations to come. The knowledge given by viewing our images should hopefully give a detailed insight in to the effects that mental illnesses cause the sufferer. We hope that this effectively helps towards ending the stigma there is around mental health. We will develop a questionnaire to hand out at the exhibit to find out how people feel about the subject after viewing the images. The benefits of this project are that we will hopefully give people a better understanding of mental health as well as showcasing our photography which will not only help end the stigma around mental health and give knowledge to people but will also get our work noticed by professionals and give us a chance to get our work displayed publicly.

Needs/Problems
The main problem is finding a gallery with a spare slot for our exhibition as these things get booked up super quickly and often have a waiting list.
Secondly, when we contact local charities, it may take a while for them to reply so we are going to have to contact as many as we can.
Identify the needs or problems to be addressed. Include the target population and any statistical information that you may have. Ideas for information to include here are:
Another would be the funding, we are hoping to get the funds for the gallery which will be approximately £400 through donations, we already have a funding page set up and have around £95 so far.

Goals/Objectives
My first goal is to have a gallery in place by the 11th of April. This will ensure that by the time the final project comes, I will definitely have somewhere to exhibit my work.
My second goal is to contact local charities and to hopefully get responses by the end of March so that they can be kept up to date with any changes.
My third goal is to raise at least half of our target, so £200, if not more, by the end of April.

Procedures/Scope of work
We are going to find a space to exhibit our images with the theme mental health. We want make the mental health theme stand out by perhaps incorporating a charity.
We need to develop our ideas so that we can let the exhibition manager know the details of our work to make them more interested.
We then need to plan and carry out shoots to get our final images and then create flyers to advertise our show.
