She wanted to show mental health through distortion, multiple exposure, photography and filters.

This is similar to what I want to do with movement and blur to show feeling and emotion effectively. I like the expressions and hand movements that she has captured in her images.

Shannon Darby wanted to show the mood swings related to Bipolar Disorder

The darkness of these images and the facial expressions in them portray negative feelings, I would like my final images to be quite dark, maybe high contrast as well as black and white to give a dull, sad atmosphere almost to add more feeling along with the expression.

"INNER SOUL. THE NEVER ENDING STRUGGLE AND CONFLICT OF MY SOUL AND MIND IS THE INSPIRATION OF MY SERIES “INNER SOUL”. IN THE PHOTOGRAPHS THE MULTIPLE EXPOSURES EXPRESS THE CONFLICT OF MIND AND SOUL. THE BLACK SYMBOLISES THE STRENGTH OF MY MIND WHILE THE WHITE IS EXPRESSING THE PURITY OF MY SOUL. THE SOLID BACKGROUND SYMBOLISES CONFLICT AS WELL AS THE INNER STRENGTH" - Farida Alam

My idea is similar to the quote except I would like the background to be a rural background, maybe trees or woods to make the person look vulnerable as they will look alone in a 'wild' area instead of a populised area. I will then have the multiple exposure/blur of the person to show expression and feeling to show the negative feelings in order to portray mental illness.

Isabelle Levistre

"Using a Holga camera and occasional double exposures, this series attempts to recreate the eternal summertime of childhood—a world of poetry, of lightness, loneliness and endless possibility."

She states that they show lonliness which I think they do as the subjects are in areas of countryside, spaces not often filled with people, places you could go to if you are feeling upset maybe. I want to take my images in a space like this as I feel it makes the subject appear more vulnerable than elsewhere as they are alone amongst the natural environment.

These images to me really show vulnerability due to the natural/rural environment. It also helps show vulnerability by having the subject without clothes as this already makes the subject vulnerable no matter what the environment so I think these images are really effective.
